Sciana Masterclass on the Treadmills of Happiness
15 December 2021
Online

Overview

Many studies show that reported happiness levels in highly developed countries do not increase any further with income as measured by GDP. On the other hand, the existing literature also suggests that people are experiencing more and more stress at work and during their free time.

This masterclass will explore various factors that create this paradox through the ‘treadmill effects’ lens. Just like walking on a treadmill, you can walk faster and faster, but you will always stay at the same place. Therefore, the treadmill is used as a metaphor for the common yet misguided pursuit of happiness, which leaves people often caught in a monotonous, repetitive, unfulfilling activity without achieving more social well-being despite general improvement to health status and income.

This event is open to all Sciana Members only.
