Sciana Challenge

As a cohort, Fellows define and tackle a real-world health leadership challenge through small working groups.

Fellows self-select into small, cross-country groups and develop workplans, study visits and projects to address the challenge. In the process, Fellows learn about each other’s health systems.

Mentorship*

Get guidance from Sciana Advisors from across country settings with challenge group work and individual leadership issues.

Financial support*

Receive modest financial support in the form of a bursary for the Sciana Challenge group work and cross-country learning opportunities. Criteria apply.

Salzburg Global Fellow opportunities*

As a Sciana Fellow, you become a Salzburg Global Fellow. Participate in Salzburg Global programs and offerings.

Challenge development process

Meeting 1

  1. Introduction to the challenge and selection of theme.
  2. Define working methods and challenge outcomes.
  3. A scene setting.
  4. Dialogue and learning from the previous cohort via the overlap cohort day.

Meeting 2

  1. Fellows work further on their challenge.
  2. Fellows assess the ability of their health systems to address the Sciana Challenge.
  3. Guest changemakers are invited to provide insight on taking the challenge into action.

Meeting 3

  1. Fellows identify the key drivers of change for the leadership challenge in each country. 
  2. Discussion on the relevance of realizing the SDGs within their countries.

Meeting 4

  1. Fellows develop the Sciana leadership statement and its implications for the three health systems and beyond.
  2. Fellows provide insight to the next cohort.
  3. A media representative is invited.
