Sciana Fellow earns Venia legendi in Health Policy and Systems Research in Family Medicine

In December, Lorena Dini (Cohort 4) delivered her inaugural lecture after completing her habilitation at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, earning the title Privatdozenzin (PD) and becoming the first woman at the Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine to achieve this. With the habilitation, the highest academic university degree awarded in Germany, she was also granted the Venia legendi (Lehrbefugnis) as the first person endowed to represent the Field of Health Policy and Systems Research in Family Medicine in Germany.

At the former Virchow Lecture Hall, she delivered her inaugural lecture entitled "Health Policy and Systems Research - A Systems Thinking Approach to Innovate Primary Care Practice by Bridging Medical and Social Sciences." She made the case for interdisciplinary translational research approaches required to strengthen health policy and system research education and research in medical universities. > Read

Lutz Hager (Cohort 2) had an opinion piece published in Tagesspiegel Background Gesundheit & E-Health last month. Lutz called for an overdue modernisation of health care and provided Germany's Federal Ministry of Health with recommendations for action for the coming year.  > Read

Nora Kronig Romero (Cohort 4) has been elected as the new director of the Swiss Red Cross. She will begin her new role on 1 May 2024.  > Read

Can AI replace human therapists?

Writing for Project Syndicate, Marc Augustin (Cohort 4) explores whether artificial intelligence can replace human therapists. Marc was introduced to Project Syndicate via Salzburg Global Seminar. He described the PS Impact workshop he attended as "a great opportunity to sharpen the ideas that we discussed in and across our cohort(s) and then take concrete steps to write and present them to an audience." > Read

Anita Buchli (Cohort 3) recently embarked on the "Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy"  course at MIT Sloan School of Management. On LinkedIn, she posed thoughts and learnings that might catch your interest. She's also looking to discuss this topic further, particularly if you are in healthcare or the medtech industry. > Read

Launch of E-Health Monitor 23/24

Tobias Silberzahn (Cohort 3) has co-edited a new publication as part of a series documenting Germany's path to digital healthcare. The latest edition of "E-Health Monitor" measures the digital progress of Germany's health system using around 30 indicators. Available since 24 January, the book also includes a contribution from Lutz Hager (Cohort 3). Lutz co-wrote a section with Johanna Nüsken on hybrid care in practice. > Read

Introducing Sciana's sixth cohort

The Sciana Network is delighted to reveal 18 new Fellows selected to join its sixth cohort. This cohort’s theme is “Systems leadership for new forms of health, care and wellbeing.” Cohort 6 will have its first residential meeting at Schloss Leopoldskron in May 2024.
